This plant survives through drought and helps keep the body temperate cool. Durva grass is used to make mats used during traditional Hindu rituals and for people to sit on during meditations. It is also the sacred ring that is worn during rituals. During eclipse, dried leaves of durva grass are placed in food containers to prevent raw foods as well as cooked foods from becoming toxic. Ideally, no cooked foods are kept during the time of eclipse.
